How much do you charge?
The value for each tattoo varies depending on the size and complexity of the design.
Large scale projects are always recommended to be completed in day sessions.
Day sessions are the most effective method of completing a large scale work.
Sessions range anywhere between 5-6 hours depending on the size/complexity of the design and how well your able to sit.
A good-sized detailed piece can be completed in one session. Ongoing work will require multiple sessions in order to make progress on large scale ongoing work e.g sleeves, back/front pieces.
Once you have completed an enquiry form and discussed your idea, this will determine whether the Tattoo will require one session or multiple sessions.
Projects that will take multiple sessions would be things like; Full sleeves, Backpiece, Front piece.
What should I expect on the day of my tattoo session?
At the start of the day session you will arrive at the studio for a time agreed prior to the session with your artist. Make sure you arrive at the studio having eaten beforehand to ensure your blood sugar levels are high ready for the tattoo session. You should always bring sweets/sugary drinks to your appointment to keep you going throughout the day. It is NOT recommended to avoid eating prior to your tattoo session.
You will complete a consent form and fill out your medical history and give a brief description of your design idea on the consent form.
Once completed, your artist will discuss any issues which could arise from the information you provided on the consent form.
Your artist will spend some time discussing the design idea they have created for you, and go through placement, and size options with you. Once a final design has been agreed that both the Client and Artist feel happy with a stencil will be prepared and applied to your skin. At this point you will be given the opportunity to discuss any issues you may have with the placement or size of the design.
Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to have little and often breaks whenever you feel you need it.
We usually take a 30 minutes lunch break in the middle of the session.
What should I do before my session?
Eat a good hearty meal before your Tattoo session.
If you eat a good meal and prepare yourself for the session ahead, you will be able to complete more work in one session.
What is the pain like/ Should I use numbing cream?
Pain is unfortunately a small part in the process of getting tattooed. Everyone deals with pain differently and feels it more in different places.
If it is your first tattoo and you are concerned about sitting for a long period of time, I would recommend going for an area that is easier for your first experience, for example, your forearm, upper arm, top of the thigh.
I wouldn’t recommend using a numbing cream for your first tattoo. Once the numbing cream has worn off and the skin has become sore and irritated; the Tattoo will hurt much more. Numbing cream is not good for the integrity of the skin, it changes the smooth tight texture to rougher looser skin and sometimes can create pimples which make it difficult to work with. I would avoid using it if possible at it makes the tattoo process much more difficult for your artist and could make the session take longer to complete.
Due to the nature of numbing cream changing the texture of the skin, the skin becomes a lot more resistant to absorbing the ink and often you find that the tattoo comes back healed with less colour and boldness resulting in a touch session.
However, if you do really struggle with pain and feel you cant the sit the session without numbing cream, please let your artist know in the enquiry form and they can recommend the best cream to use and how to properly apply it so it is effective for the session. If the cream is not applied properly it won’t be effective for very long and will be a waste.
